This book was published in 1998 and I'm pretty sure I read it about 10 years ago. I literally remembered absolutely nothing about it before rereading.

The beginning of each book gives us a
“yearbook” with all the characters. I'll summarize.

In the last episode, we spent a couple
hundred pages in Kenny's head as he worked as a counselor at a summer
camp. He met a girl named Melly and instantly forgot all
about his girlfriend Jade who was at an SAT prep course in
California. Weird things started to happen to Kenny almost
immediately and he almost died several times (LOLZ). Melly turned
out to be a ghost. She died at the camp back when they were 8 years
old and she'd been waiting for Kenny to return to the camp so she
could claim him, kill him and spend eternity with him. To do this,
she stole the bodies of a beautiful teenage girl and a young boy from
a graveyard so she could pose as both a counselor and one of Kenny's
campers. We were also introduced to Ty who was a bit of a
competitive, irritable dick. In the end, no one was doomed and only
the dead girl “died”. Ish.
We start off in Dana's head as she gets
ready for the first day of her senior year of high school. Yes, dear
readers, summer is finally over. I know it only lasted one book, but
that book felt like forever. Anyway, she's almost ready to go but
her twin sister Deirdre still hasn't gotten dressed yet. Stine
pauses to give us the whole “the twins look the same but they're so
different” spiel and I swear to God it feels like I'm in Sweet
Valley instead of Shadyside. Dana thinks Deirdre is having a hard
time picking an outfit because she has a crush on some boy. Deirdre
denies it but not very convincingly.
Deirdre is a little down. It's her
last year of high school and she feels like she hasn't accomplished
anything yet. Dana is a cheerleader and popular and has dated a lot
of guys but Deirdre has just been existing. Dana thinks she's just
being emo and she heads outside where Mickey is waiting for her.
Apparently the two of them have been dating all summer. She knows it
won't last because Mickey has a roving eye but she's having fun while
it lasts. Mickey is a party kind of guy and Dana like his “fast”
ways.
Deirdre comes out and Mickey whistles
at her which causes her to get very flustered and trip over her own
feet. Dana thinks it's weird but dismisses it.
For the love of all that is holy,
Stine, you better not be setting up a triangle between Dana, Deirdre
and Mickey. So help me I will put a 😈curse😈 on you that will last
generations.
As they drive to school, they have to
wait for Danielle to pull out of her driveway. ((DANIELLE IS
NOT IN THE YEARBOOK AND THEREFORE DOES NOT EXIST)). She reminds Dana
that Phoebe has called an emergency cheerleader meeting. Dana
grumbles about it for a block or two. She's still bitter that Phoebe
was named head cheerleader instead of her.
They see Clark and Debra drive by and
give us a review of the whole Debra/Josh break up and the rumor that
Clark is actually a vampire. Then they pass Stacy as she walks to
school. We're told Stacy is obsessed with sports and hats.
They finally arrive at school and find
a parking spot. Danielle is rushing into the school and Dana knows
she has to get a move on too or she's going to be late for the
meeting. She gives Mickey a quick kiss and sees Deirdre get all
flustered again. ((I WILL 😈CURSE😈 YOU!)) Across the lot she spots
Debra walking with Mira and she wonders where Clark
disappeared to so fast. ((MIRA IS NOT IN THE YEARBOOK AND THEREFORE
DOES NOT EXIST))
Yes, I'm gong to keep saying that. Fight me.
Dana rushes into the gym and is
surprised to find it dark. Where is this meeting she was supposed to
be attending? She sees someone sprawled across the floor and
realizes it's Danielle. A door opens across the way and she sees
someone run out. She goes to Danielle but she's cold and
still.......as death. {{GASP}}
I can't LOLZ at this one because
apparently she's actually, really dead. Although it's pretty hard to be dead when you NEVER ACTUALLY EXISTED. Clark
appears, summoned by Dana's scream and checks the body. He murmurs
that she's “so pale” and then Stine just scarpers and ends the chapter.
We hop to the end of the school day and
Dana is impatiently waiting for Mickey to take her home. She's
lowkey traumatized from finding Danielle's body earlier. Kids are
gathered around her trying to get the scoop on what she saw. Dana
shudders and mentions that Danielle was super cold and super pale
which piques Matty's interest. He seems to assign some significance
to it and we all know where the fuck this is going.
Trisha takes this opportunity to remind
them that she had a vision of the entire senior class in graves
before she runs off with Gary. Dana is surprised because she was
pretty sure Gary was dating Mary but Deirdre reminds her that Trisha
and Gary hooked up at that party in book one and maybe Dana should do
a little re-reading so she gets her facts straight. Dana asks if
Mary knows about this but before Deirdre can answer, a scream fills
the air. {{{GASP}}}
This one is pretty legitimate too.
Apparently Gary rear-ended another car in the parking lot. Everyone
is fine but Gary and Trisha are pretty shaken up. We switch over to
Deirdre's head as Gary and Trisha embrace each other next to the
wreckage of Gary's car. Deirdre sees Mary in the crowd and the look
on Mary's face confirms that she knew nothing of her boyfriend's new
girlfriend. Ooops. Mary runs off and Deirdre goes over to make sure
Trisha is okay.
Trisha says Gary's brakes failed and he
drove into the back of a parked car. No one cut the lines or anything.
Gary knew they were going out for awhile but couldn't afford to fix
them. Someone yells Deirdre's name and she turns to see a tall,
dark-haired boy approaching. He reminds her that he's Jon,
the new kid and she remembers that they have study hall together.
((JON IS NOT IN THE YEARBOOK AND THEREFORE DOES NOT EXIST)) He says
he just saw her in different clothes getting into some car with a boy
and she tells him about the existence of her twin.
The two of them make small talk.
Basically he's sought her out for the same reason everyone else did –
to hear about the body (because he didn't know at first that she
wasn't the one who found it). She asks him about his previous school
and he gets all mysterious about it, saying he ran into some
“trouble” there. He flirts a little and then touches the mole on
her chin, asking if her twin sister has the same one. Deirdre
blushes and thinks his finger feels super cold against her heated
skin. She tells him that she's the only one with the mole and he
says it's good he has a way to know which one is her. Then he just
walks off. She's all a-twitter.
Deirdre ends up meeting Jennifer and
Stacy at The Corner which is apparently the hot hangout spot for
Shadyside High students. They're having a bit of a gos sesh. Stacy
is pissed at Trisha for dating Gary behind Mary's back. Jennifer
points out that it's more Gary's fault but Stacy insists that girl
code says Trisha shouldn't date him until he breaks up with Mary.
I'm on both sides here. They're both right.
They talk briefly about Trisha's
premonition of doom and then Deirdre goes up to the counter to get
another Coke. Jon comes in and, at first, Deirdre thinks he's with a
hot redhead but that turns out not to be the case. He asks her if
she's seeing anyone and she wistfully thinks of Mickey.............
I 😈CURSE😈 YOU!!!!!!
She finally tells him that
she's not dating anyone and he tells her that he'll see her later.
It's kind of all awkward and endearing. Mickey is at her table
talking to Jennifer and Stacy and she can tell that he has something
horrible to tell her. She just knows her sister is dead. {{{GASP}}}
I finally get to use this.
LOLZ
Dana is fine. Mickey just
heard on the news that Danielle's body was completely drained of
blood and he rushed down to share the horrifying news with everyone
else. Deirdre says it's impossible because Dana said there was no
blood on the floor of the gym.
Deirdre begins to suspect Clark who showed up so quickly on the scene. Since he's been dating
Debra she's become so tired and pale. Deirdre wonders if the rumors
about Clark are really true. He and Debra are sitting in a booth
across the room and she sees Debra get up to go to the bathroom or
something. She decides to follow to talk to her about Clark. She's
hoping Debra will have some reasonable explanation for her paleness
or something. But as she gets up she knocks over her glass of Coke
and gets delayed cleaning it up. By the time she's done, Debra has
emerged from the bathroom and she and Clark are standing at the
counter to order.
Deirdre notices that Clark
has left a notebook on the table where they were sitting to save it
and she wanders over to snoop. She finds this poem......
“So
cold, so pale,
You lie
before me.
Your blood
has vanished,
People
say.
How?
Where? They ask.
They don't
ask me, but I could say,
Your blood
gives life....”
Part
Two
It's
been three days since Danielle died ((DANIELLE IS NOT IN THE YEARBOOK AND THEREFORE DOES NOT EXIST)) and no one knows who killed her.
Deirdre told Jennifer, Stacy and Dana about the poem in Clark's
notebook and now Dana is convinced that Clark is the killer.
Jennifer asks if Jon has asked Deirdre out yet and Deirdre says no.
Jon has had plenty of opportunities because she's seen him “a dozen
times in study hall”. Um. What? She's had study hall a dozen
times in three days? Normally you only get one of those a day. What
kind of school is this?
Talk
turns to basketball and Stacy bemoans the fact that their team sucks
this year. Deirdre used to be on the team and she was pretty good so
Stacy encourages her to try out again. Deirdre is pretty
non-committal about the whole thing and I have no idea if she will or
won't.
Deirdre
heads home after that and hears her phone ringing upstairs as soon as
she comes in the door. Stine has decided to fulfill his creepy phone
call obligation and it's a heavy breather on the other line. He
tells her that Danielle's blood was delicious and Deirdre is next.
Character
receives a creepy anonymous call? Check.
Another
day or two passes and it's time for Danielle's funeral. Most of our
yearbook cast is there because THEY exist. After the service when everyone parades by
the open coffin to say goodbye, both Deirdre and Dana see Danielle's
corpse sit up and say “Help me. I can't sleep.” No one else
sees it or hears it. Deirdre promises Danielle's spirit that she
will help.
Dana
runs home immediately after the vision so that leaves Deirdre to figure
things out. She gathers up Jennifer, Josie and Trisha and tells them
what happened. She wants to have a séance to try to contact
Danielle's spirit. Jennifer is highly reluctant because Danielle never existed. Josie is a
little freaked out because of the Doom Spell she accidentally invoked
in book one. But they all finally agree to hold the séance in
Jennifer's weird library full of creepy black magic books later that
night.
Deirdre
goes home and tries to convince Dana to join them. She thinks it's
important since they're the only two who heard and saw Danielle
speak. Dana refuses. She says she's going to have a normal senior
year no matter what happens. She's not going to have seances for characters who never really existed or
chase murderers or anything like that. She's going to forget what
she saw and she thinks Deirdre should too.
Josie
calls Deirdre then and confesses that she released some kind of evil
when she did the Doom Spell. She doesn't tell Deirdre about the mass
killing in the first book but she expresses her feelings of guilt
regarding Danielle. Deirdre insists it was a vampire and she tells
Josie that Danielle's spirit will reveal who killed her tonight and
Josie will feel tons better knowing it wasn't her fault. Josie
reluctantly agrees to take part.
That
night the four of them gather in Jennifer's library to hold their
séance. A voice comes out of nowhere that doesn't sound like
Danielle but when they ask if it is, the voice says yes. It says it
can't rest and Deirdre asks who the vampire is. The ghostly voice
announces that it's Trisha. Trisha is the murderer.
The
spirit starts laughing then and says “It's Trisha. Who's
Trisha?” over and over. LOLZ We have a comedian on our hands
here, folks. Deirdre yells that the spirit isn't Danielle at all and
then they turn on the lights and agree never to speak of this again.
Well,
that was dumb.
Part
Three
It's
the end of the first week of school and the seniors are having their
traditional overnight camp out in the Fear Woods. Dana and Mickey
are cuddling by the campfire watching everyone else. Dierdre is
there with Jon ((JON IS NOT IN THE YEARBOOK AND THEREFORE DOES NOT
EXIST)). Kenny and Jade are embracing near the flames and Ty and
that chick Mira ((MIRA IS NOT IN THE YEARBOOK AND THEREFORE DOES NOT
EXIST)) are making out across the way. Gary and Mary are together
but Gary keeps watching Trisha who is roasting hot dogs with Josie
and Jennifer. Clark is there standing alone but no one has seen
Debra. Josh is sitting with Marla but not listening to her at all.
Matty is trying to chat up some chick named Anita ((ANITA IS
NOT IN THE YEARBOOK AND THEREFORE DOES NOT EXIST)) who is also new in
school this year.
Wait a minute.
We have two new students and suddenly there are actual deaths happening??
Odds that either Jon or Mary (or both) are the bad guy: 90%
Mickey
and Dana start to make out and then a scream pierces the night.
Deirdre has gotten too close to the fire and set her arm and hair on
fire. She panics and flails about which obviously makes it worse but
Jon springs into action and uses a sleeping bag to douse the flames.
Deirdre is okay – there's some pain but no blisters. Dana wants
her to go see a doctor but Deirdre doesn't want to leave. She's
looking at Jon in a new light now. He saved her life after all.
Anita
apologizes to Deirdre. She says that she doesn't really exist and that makes her horribly uncoordinated. Actually, she says that she accidentally bumped into
Deirdre while dancing and that's why Deirdre stumbled too close to the
fire. Deirdre recognizes her as the girl who walked into The Corner
ahead of Jon that day. The one Deirdre thought he was with. She
wonders if they know each other. She tells Anita that it's no big
deal because it was clearly an accident and then Jon takes her away
from the group to do some first aid. He wraps her arm in gauze and
then goes to fetch her a cup of cocoa. She thanks him for saving her
life and then they kiss. She likes it but he pulls away with an odd
look on his face. She asks him is something is wrong and he says no.
Deirdre
is a little concerned that he might not be into her after all so she
suggests a walk in the woods. Because......reasons.....I guess. He
agrees and tells her that he found something out there earlier that
he wants to show her. Jon leads her deep into the woods and she
starts to get a little nervous because they're far away from everyone
else and it's a little creepy.
Jon
finally brings her to a little clearing and shows her an abandoned
cabin. He says he's fixed it up inside and asks if she wants to go
in. She does but then Dana starts calling her name, wanting to know
where she is and the two of them decide to go back. On the way, Jon
tells her to keep the cabin a secret. He doesn't want anyone else to
know it exists. She's skeptical but he explains that it's just his
place away from the world and he doesn't want anyone else to use it.
Or......you
know......that's where he hides the bodies.
We
hop into Dana's head. It's the middle of the night and everyone else
is asleep. She just can't seem to turn her mind off but she's not
thinking of anything pressing or important. It's more that mundane
stuff where you keep going over the next day's schedule in your head
and wondering if you have clean laundry. She thinks she hears
someone outside of her tent and then suddenly someone is pressing
down on her and she feels a sharp pain in her throat before a blade
slices through her and she rapidly bleeds out. {{{GASP}}}
LOLZ
It
was just a dream. She screams and wakes everyone up. Clark is the
first on the scene again because we're supposed to suspect him of
being a vampire dontchaknow. Dana tells everyone she had a nightmare
and to go back to sleep. Her neck hurts and when she touches the
side of it, she feels a small bump. She tells herself it's just a
mosquito bite but she secretly suspects vampire.
The
next morning Dana feels weak and achy. They're all supposed to go on
a hike but she feels like a truck ran her over so she begs off,
saying she's just going to nap in her tent. Mickey kisses her before
he leaves and she sees the expression on Deirdre's face and realizes
her sister has a crush on her boyfriend.
😈CURSE😈!!!
Dana
is annoyed but not worried. She knows Deirdre doesn't have a prayer
of stealing a boy off her. Actually, Deirdre doesn't have a prayer
of competing with Dana in any area of life. Clearly Dana thinks
pretty highly of herself, y'all.
Everyone leaves on the hike and Dana is alone. Except she isn't. Clark is there too. He approaches Dana with some creepy statement of “You're all alone” or something lame like that. She gets terrified and screams. {{{GASP}}}
A
bizarre conversation follows where Stine tries hard to establish
Clark as a viable suspect. It's not very effective. Clark asks her
if she's dreaming a lot about Danielle which Dana makes into some
kind of serial killer question but literally is just a regular
question a regular person might ask after someone goes through a
traumatizing experience. Dana asks him where Debra is and he says
that she was too tired to come which Dana assumes means Clark is
draining Debra's blood on the regular. Clark tells Dana to get some
rest and then takes off to join the hike. It was very much a
non-chapter.
Dana
falls asleep and doesn't wake up until everyone comes back. They're
all packing up to go home and Mickey says he's starving. He asks
Dana if she wants to go to McDonald's and she says she wants to take
a shower at home first because she feels grimy. As she looks around,
she notices that Deirdre isn't present. She asks a few people but no
one has seen her for awhile. Dana is getting nervous when Clark
comes running out of the woods with blood dripping from his mouth.
He obviously just killed Deirdre and drank her blood. {{{GASP}}}
LOLZ
He
was running from a skunk, tripped, fell face first into a tree and
busted the hell out of his poor lip. Dana angrily asks him where
Deirdre is and Clark has no fucking idea what she's talking about.
He says she was ahead of him and should be back by now. Dana doesn't
believe him. She heads into the woods with Mickey and Jennifer close
on her heels. She's sure Clark has done something to her sister.
They
eventually find Deirdre laying on the bank of the creek, motionless.
Dana runs to her sister's side and screams as she realizes Deirdre is
dead. {{{GASP}}}
LOLZ
She's
not dead. She wakes up and explains that she was getting ready to
wade in the creek when she was stung by a bee. She's mildly allergic
to bee stings and she hyperventilated and passed out. Dana inspects
her neck and finds two red bumps in the same general location as
Dana's mosquito bite. She's sure they've both been bitten by
vampires.
When
they get home, one of them gets another creepy call saying “I said
you were next. Do you believe me now?”
Part
Four
We're
suddenly treated to chapter in the head of the home economics
teacher, Carla Sanders. School is over for the day and she's
doing some general tidying when she realizes she's not alone in the
room. Stine is super careful not to use any identifying pronouns at
all through this entire exchange so we don't know if the student is
male or female. But basically the student appears and tells Carla
that he/she is hungry. Carla makes a joke about him/her not being in
this class. The student comes closer and overpowers Carla and then
bites into her neck and drinks her blood.
Mickey
later finds her body.....somehow. No one explains what he was doing
in the home ec room after school but whatevs. The body is cold and
pale and completely drained of blood again.
They
cancel school for a few days. Clark is questioned for hours but no
arrest is made. Dana is sure that the police are incompetent. Clark
is 100% the murderer in her eyes and she won't hear anything else.
Trisha comes over to hang out and has a vision. In her vision, one
of the twins is dead and the other is drinking her blood.
Eventually
everyone goes back to school. There are armed guards patrolling the
halls now which just makes Deirdre more nervous. She can't stop
thinking of Trisha's vision. Dana is now somewhat convinced that
she's going to become a vampire because of the mosquito bite on her
neck and she's going to kill Deirdre and drink her blood. Deirdre is
so wrapped up thinking about it that she can't concentrate on
anything else. Stacy reminds her that she promised to try out for
the basketball team and Deirdre reluctantly agrees. As she's heading
toward the gym, the killer jumps out of a classroom and grabs her.

It's
just Jon ((JON IS NOT IN THE YEARBOOK AND THEREFORE DOES NOT EXIST)).
But I'm pretty sure either Jon or Anita is the actual killer so
maybe this wasn't a LOLZ after all.
Jon
just wants to ask her if she's heard anything else about suspects.
Why would he think she would know anything? She's not connected to
the police and she's not the psychic one. She hasn't even found any
bodies. He kisses her and takes off, saying he'll call her later.
Deirdre
continues to the gym where she discovers Stacy's dead body laying on
the floor. {{{GASP}}}
LOLZ
Stacy
just dropped a contact and is searching for it. They go into tryouts
and Deirdre is surprised to see Anita is there because Anita is not in the yearbook and therefore does not exist. They make small talk as
they warm up and Anita reveals that she used to date Jon at their old
school. They just didn't have much chemistry so it ended but she
thinks he's an okay guy. During the tryouts, Anita slams a
basketball into Deirdre's stomach and trips her as she's running down
the court. Both incidents seem like accidents and Anita seems
suitably apologetic but Deirdre can't help but wonder. Also, Clark
is sitting in the bleachers watching tryouts for no real reason other
than Stine is trying to force him down our fucking throats as a
suspect.
When
Deirdre gets home, she discovers a note in her gym bag.
“Your
sister's blood was so sweet.
Yours will
be even sweeter.”
We
skip to Friday night. Deirdre and Stacy are hanging out at
Jennifer's house talking about random crap. Stacy saw Gary and
Trisha together again and she's pissed on Mary's behalf. Deirdre
defends Trisha which makes Stacy mad. Stacy is really big on girl
code and Deirdre isn't.....which make some sense since she's in love
with her sister's boyfriend. They argue and it gets pretty heated.
Deirdre finally leaves in a huff.
It's
dark and foggy outside because of course it is. As she walks home
through the creepy streets, she notices a car following her. It turn
out to be Jon. He just loves scaring the hell out of her. If he
isn't the bad guy, he's an emotional sadist. But he's definitely the bad guy. It's SO OBVIOUS. He offers her a ride
and she gets in. He asks her if she wants to go to dinner at the
mall and she happily agrees.
Jon
drives like a maniac on the way. He's tailgating and passing with
too little room and going way too fast. She tries to engage him in
conversation about his past because it's always a good idea to
distract a guy who is driving dangerously to begin with. He gives
her non-answers and then turns the radio up so conversation is pretty
much impossible. At one point she realizes that he's not heading for
the mall at all. He's gotten onto the highway and she's
being kidnapped. {{{GASP}}}
LOLZ
He's
new to town and he took a wrong turn. He pulls off at the next exit
to get his bearings and spends a little time trying to get into her
pants. She shoves him off and tells him to stick with the mall plan
because that's all he's getting.
When
they get to the Burger Barn in the mall it's packed with their
classmates. She sees Dana and Mickey toward the back and goes to say
hi real quick. On her way back to Jon, Clark grabs her hand and asks
her if she got his note. She thinks he means the one about her blood
and she freaks the fuck out. {{{GASP}}}
LOLZ
He
actually left a note in her locker or something congratulating her on
making the basketball team. He tells her he's the new sports
reporter for the paper which explains why he was watching practice.
When she gets back to her table, she's shaken and scared. Poor
Clark can't shake his creepy image and I'm not even sure he's trying.
Deirdre asks Jon if he believes in vampires and he knows she's
talking about Clark. He says Clark isn't a vampire, he's just trying
too hard to be a hipster. Then he notices Anita across the room and
gets quiet and moody. He excuses himself to go to the men's room.
Deirdre
waits and waits but he doesn't come back. She notices Anita is now
gone too and goes to look in the parking lot. Sure enough, Jon's car is gone. By now her sister and everyone else she knows has left so she resolves herself to walking home. She pays the
bill Jon stuck her with and sets out.
The
fog is even worse now. As she walks, a shadow emerges from the rest
and grabs her. She feels instantly weak and paralyzed and she can't
get away. There's a sharp pain in her neck and then she feels
someone drinking from her.

Five
We
get a bad guy chapter which I just LOVE.
The
bad guy says he has to drink. That's the only vampire “rule”
that must be followed. It wanted to drink all of Deirdre's blood but her
sister came along in the car and it had to abandon its plan.
Eventually it vows to drain both twins.
It's
Monday now. Deirdre is weak and jumpy. She confronts Jon and he
says he got super sick at the restaurant. He waved to her and called
over the crowd that he had to leave and he thought she heard him.
She isn't sure she buys it. Jon says there's a lot he wants to talk
to Deirdre about. He wants to tell her all about his past. He
invites her to go to “his” cabin sometime after school and she
agrees.
There's
a game that night because apparently Shadyside's varsity basketball
team plays on Mondays. Sigh. There are college recruiters there and
Stacy is hella stoked. She needs this to go well because she needs a
scholarship. During the game, Deirdre almost suspects that Anita is
playing for the other team. She's constantly knocking the ball out
of her teammates' hands and tripping them up. She takes Stacy down
at one point and injures her foot to the point that Stacy can't play.
Stacy is furious and Anita runs off the court crying.
Stacy
vows to kill Anita about six times ((you can't kill her because she doesn't exist)) in one page and we all know what
that means..................
The
next day they find Anita's body in the shower room.
Odds
that Stacy killed Anita: 7%
Anita
dies like the others – she's totally drained of blood. The
students gather outside and watch in horror as her body is removed.
There is talk of the school closing down until the murderer is
caught. As they're standing there, Jon runs up and says the police
have arrested the vampire. They see Clark getting led away in
handcuffs.
Odds
of Clark being the vampire: 2%
Jon
asks Deirdre to come to his cabin and celebrate. Deirdre tells him
she cannot because he wasn't in the yearbook and therefore does not
exist but he insists. She finally agrees but then Mickey runs up to
tell them that Anita's body disappeared from the morgue. Deirdre
thinks this means the murderer is still at large and she tells Jon
she can't go.
Later
she feels bad and asks Dana to go with her. They trek through the
Fear Woods in search of the place. It takes her a bit to find it
and, when she does, Dana is not impressed. It looks pretty dismal
from the outside but Deirdre tells her that Jon said he fixed the
inside up really nice. They knock on the door and call out to him
but there's no answer. The door won't open so Deirdre goes looking
for another way in. She finally finds a window that can be opened
and they crawl in. To her surprise, the place is completely grimy
inside with no furniture at all except a huge black coffin.
They
hear someone coming through the woods and know they have to escape.
For some reason they are determined to go out the front door.
Protagonist
displays a shocking lack of survival skills? Check.
I
mean, seriously. Why would you go out the front fucking door when
someone is approaching the cabin and you want to hide from him/her?
The
coffin is partially blocking the front door which is why they
couldn't get in that way. They push and shove at it and it tilts.
To their horror, the lid slides off and there's Anita.
Anita
tells them she's been a vampire for 50 years. She's been trying to
kill the two of them for ages. Dana she wants dead because Dana saw
her running from the gym the day Danielle died. Dana protests that
she didn't even know that was Anita since Anita wasn't in the yearbook and doesn't exist. Deirdre she wants dead because she loves Jon and Deirdre
took Jon away from her. She tells them that neither of them will
leave alive and then she pounces. She knocks Dana aside and goes for
Deirdre because she has more beef with this twin. Deirdre screams as
Anita bites her neck. {{{GASP}}}
LOLZ
She
doesn't really. Dana jumps on her before she can. There's a brief
scuffle and then Jon arrives to save the day. He stakes Anita and
she turns to dust. He tells the twins it's over. There will be no
more phone calls or murders. Suddenly Deirdre screams “NO!” and
stakes Jon right through the chest. He turns to dust. They were
both vampires. Deirdre says she knew because she never told Jon
about the phone calls. That was a pretty huge gamble to take. What
if Anita had told him? Oh, well. The gamble paid off I guess.
They
go back to town and get the police. When they arrive back at the
cabin, the coffin is gone and there's no evidence of dusted vampires
anywhere. The police are really nice about it, saying that everyone
is stressed out and jumping at shadows right now and they understand.
The
twins get home to find Trisha on their doorstep. She tells them
she's had another horrifying vision about them but they don't even
let her talk. They go inside and slam the door and the book ends.
So.....finally
some actual deaths but again, all of them were people who were not in
the yearbook and therefore did not exist. I feel cheated.
Also,
did Clark get out of jail?
Odds that Stine forgot he had Clark arrested: 99.99%
